Accelerated greening of the global PCB industry
2025-07-25
In the face of increasing environmental pressure and the global consensus on sustainable development, the PCB industries of various countries around the world are accelerating their pace of green development and comprehensively improving environmental protection standards in the production process.
As an important foundation of the electronic information industry, the PCB industry involves many chemical processes in its production process, such as etching, electroplating, and solder masking. These processes inevitably generate a large amount of wastewater, waste gas, and waste residue, causing significant negative impacts on the environment. However, with the increasing global attention to environmental protection, the green transformation of the PCB industry is imminent.
In terms of wastewater treatment, enterprises in various countries have adopted advanced technologies and equipment. For example, some enterprises have introduced membrane separation technology. Through special semi - permeable membranes, this technology can efficiently separate heavy metal ions and organic pollutants in wastewater. Compared with traditional precipitation and filtration methods, membrane separation technology has higher separation accuracy and lower energy consumption. At the same time, biological treatment technology has also been widely used. Using the metabolic function of microorganisms, organic pollutants in wastewater are decomposed into harmless carbon dioxide and water, greatly reducing the chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of wastewater. After being treated by these advanced technologies, the heavy metal content in wastewater can be reduced to an extremely low level, and the removal rate of organic pollutants can reach over 95%. Some enterprises have even achieved zero - discharge of wastewater or the reuse of reclaimed water, greatly saving water resources.
Waste gas treatment is also a key point in the green development of the PCB industry. For the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) waste gas generated during the production process, many enterprises have adopted the adsorption - catalytic combustion technology. This technology first adsorbs VOCs in the waste gas through an adsorbent to purify the waste gas; then, under appropriate conditions, the adsorbent is desorbed, and the concentrated VOCs are sent to a catalytic combustion device. Under the action of a catalyst, VOCs are oxidized and decomposed into carbon dioxide and water, achieving compliant discharge of waste gas. In addition, for acidic waste gas and alkaline waste gas, enterprises use equipment such as acid - base neutralization towers for treatment respectively to ensure that acidic or alkaline substances in the waste gas are effectively removed.
With the acceleration of the green development process of the global PCB industry, it will not only help reduce damage to the environment but also promote the entire industry to develop in a higher - quality and more sustainable direction, making positive contributions to global environmental protection and economic development.
